Originally founded as James R. Libby and Associates in 1960, the firm offered complete design services for building, waterfront, and bridge structures.  The company excelled in the field of prestressed concrete bridge and building design and enjoyed a reputation as an expert in the field. 


With the retirement of James R. Libby in 1994 Libby Engineers, Inc. dba Martin & Libby (M&L)  continues to provide quality professional structural engineering services including design, analysis, seismic retrofit and preparation of construction documents. 


Martin & Libby, a certified woman-owned business, is headquartered in San Diego, California and its principals and staff have performed for a variety of projects ranging in construction cost from several thousand to $250 million.



Jean M. Libby, is a licensed civil engineer with an extensive background in structural plan review and project management.  Prior to Martin and Libby she worked 12 years for the City of San Diego Development Services Department's Structural Division providing plan review for structural adequacy and code compliance.  Her experience at Martin and Libby includes projects such as the San Diego Airport Terminal 2 expansion, Petco Park Stadium foundations, and LA Metro Transit Expansion.

Donald Libby is a licensed civil engineer and structural engineer with over 40 years experience in structural engineering.  His broad range of experience includes the design and/or investigation of bridges, buildings, parking structures, towers, hangars, tanks, and cranes. Mr. Libby has acted as project manager for many new projects, additions to existing construction and seismic upgrades. He has provided peer reviews and been responsible for numerous structural investigations, reports and feasibility studies.

Jonathan a. Schauder

Jonathan Schauder has over 10 years of experience in structural analysis and design in the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors encompassing work in concrete, structural steel, and wood construction.  Mr. Schauder's experience includes design and/or investigation of parking structures, stadium improvements, light-railway stations, buildings, and improvements to power generation facilities.
